About Artist

Composer, arranger and performing artist, David Matthew Sklar, is an engaging performer, with broad ranging influences from classical to pop, and is able to perform in many musical genres.

Born in 1975, in Long Island, N.Y. , David has been composing and performing music regularly since the age of twelve. With an innate gift of perfect pitch, David gained acceptance to the prestigious preparatory program at the Manhattan School of Music at the age of eleven. While at Manhattan School of Music, David studied piano performance with Phillip Kawin and took classes with master teacher and soloist, Andre Watts. During this period, he also studied with Jacques DesPres, musical director of the Stony Brook University Music Department, and with concert pianist Marina Grin at the National Music Academy at Interlochen, Michigan . During the summers, David attended and performed at a chamber music camp in Middlebury, Vermont . Upon graduation from Manhattan School of Music, David gained acceptance at Berklee College of Music, in Boston, Massachusetts . While at Berklee, David studied pop performance with Livingston Taylor.

Early in his career, David performed within his local community on Long Island , playing at civic auditoriums, libraries and benefits.  In 1991, David performed vocally at Lincoln Center in a musical tribute to the late Jim Henson. From 1990 through 1992, for three consecutive years, he received perfect scores in both voice and piano at NYSSMA. He has performed his original works scored for orchestra and piano at the National Music Academy at Interlochen, Michigan and at the Manhattan School of Music.

Committed to further developing his pop music career, in 1996, after graduation from Berklee, David pursued his career in Los Angeles , Ca.. While in Los Angeles , his professional accomplishments included artistic support under the direction of Graham Preskett for the film score of the studio feature "Something To Talk About", at Hans Zimmer's Media Ventures. David also interned under the musical supervision of musical director Ray Bunch for NBC network's hit television series "The Pretender".

 

 

Presently living in New York City, David has been hard at work composing and performing at clubs in the NYC area.  He has just finished recording his second albums and you can hear all of his music at his website: www.davidsklarmusic.com
